The Cowpea of Trasimeno Lake (Vigna unguiculata subsp. Unguiculata L.) is a bean that has been cultivated as a food product since ancient times in areas, which are now limited, around Lake Trasimeno. The fact that it is known by many different names (metre bean, rice bran, horn bean, white bean) testifies to its widespread and varied use. To enhance its flavour it should be served with a drizzling of extra virgin olive oil.
