This sweet is prepared in the Spoleto area during the Christmas season. But in certain areas, such as Giano dell’Umbria, it is also served during Carnival. Its origins are traced back to the Nordic invasions for its similar appearance to strudel. Another sweet filled with fruit is the “rocciata di Assisi”. Other Christmas sweets similar to Attorta and Rocciata are the Christmas Cake from Cerreto di Spoleto, the “Serpentone” (snake-shaped cake) from Città di Castello and Torciglione from Norcia.
