He loves figurative painting, but not as a means to an end. In his canvases, in which oil paints provide a unique brilliance and sense of introspection, Roberto Levati emphasises the pain of living, making dramatic problems palpable, like world hunger and social inequalities. Difficult issues that certainly can’t be solved with only with technique, but that require intelligence and a special sensibility. After all this artist, with his laboratory and studio in Massa Martana, was taught by illustrious masters of art and life such as Guttuso and Purificato.
