Tozzetti are sweet biscuits of Tuscan origins typically prepared for holidays. With an elongated form they are made with flour, eggs, sugar, yeast and almonds. Certain versions add candied citron, raisins or aniseed, depending on taste. To form Tozzetti, the biscuit dough is shaped into a loaf which is then cut into rather thick slices (hence the name Tozzetti, the Italian word for pieces) which are then baked in the oven. Sold packaged or by weight and served with Vin Santo or Sagrantino Passito dessert wines.
